He had a garage business in Denholme and was the Halifax team manager for a time resigning after a dispute with Kenny Carter over the rider's impact on team spirit. Subsequently returned to Australia.

Gordon passed away just days after his 70th birthday. He rode for nearly 25 years, the bulk of which was with the Oxford/White City/Eastbourne promotion. He was one of the first Esatbourne "graduates" and his second place in the 1978 World Final was the pinnacle of his fine career along with the World Pairs title also in 1978. A British Final regular from the mid 70s through to the mid 80s. A friendly and sociable guy who readily posed for selfies during recent trips to Berwick and Glasgow.
