Best moment in Speedway –  when I ride for Harringay in the final of the London Cup in 1951, my first big meeting for a British team. At Wembley I get an 18 point maximum and Harringay only lose by two points. We think we have a good chance of winning the trophy but Wembley come to Harringay the next night and win easily. But I get 17 points and am very pleased with myself after these two meetings

And worst moment – this happens when I’m road racing in the Hedermora Grand Prix in Sweden. I am in a bunch of riders when one falls, and everyone scatters all over the place. I go off the road at 90 mph, over a ditch, through some hedges and trees. I think my motocross experience that saves me. I was careering about in thick woods for may be a minute before I can stop. A very long and nasty moment, but I escape unhurt

Ambitions – to win the World Final. Maybe it’s a bit too late But I shall have another go this year.
